Tranmere Rovers Women 5-2 Blackpool Ladies

8 August 2022

It was a warm and sunny day at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village and another pre season fixture for the Tranmere Rovers Women’s side.

Today’s opposition was Blackpool who had made the journey down from Lancashire to face a Tranmere side in high spirits.

Tranmere started the game brightly and didn’t allow the tangerine shirts of Blackpool any time and space on the ball, with the Super White’s looking strong in possession and peppering shots on the Blackpool goal.

After 10 minutes Olivia Hulmston stung the hands of the keeper with arguably Rovers best chances of the opening exchanges and shortly after another shot from range tested the keeper again as Tranmere ramped the pressure up on the opposition goal.

With the warm weather, a water break ensued but 5 minutes after the game got back underway Rovers had their breakthrough when midfielder Ellie Doyle struck from the edge of the area with a crisp right footed shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Rovers continued to string together some wonderful passing moves and were awarded a penalty 5 minutes before the half time interval which Ellie Doyle stepped up and slotted home for her second of the game.

The second half got underway with the temperature rising and with four minutes gone in the second half the game was surely put out of Blackpool’s reach when the Blackpool goalkeeper miss controlled the ball and watched helplessly as the ball trickled off the underside of her foot and into the goal for 3-0.

Tranmere were in cruise control and soon added a fourth when Elisha Price found the net on 65 minutes before Keris McRoberts finished off a wonderful team move when she rattled a right footed shot off the underside of the bar after a great ball in from the right side of the area.

After the five goals for Tranmere, Blackpool regrouped and managed to get a quick fire double but this Rovers side don’t give in and worked well together to close out the game and collect the victory to the delight of the crowd in attendance.

Up next for the ladies is Wem Town Ladies in their final game of pre season at the Sports Village on the 14th August, 2pm Kick off.
