Tranmere Rovers Women announce new first team management

12 August 2022

Tranmere Rovers Women are delighted to announce Sam Irvine and Craig Nolan as the new manager and assistant manager of the first team.

Sam will take on the role as first team manager whilst Craig will join him as his assistant.

Sam and Craig join us from Bury where they won the cup double with the reserve team.

Joining the pair and continuing their roles as part of the coaching team are Lynn Carter and Harry Pugh as a first team coach and goalkeeper coach respectively.

Lynn has been part of the Club for over 30 years as a player and coach and Harry has been with us now for over a year, both playing a massive part in the team's success last season.

Speaking to Sam and Craig after their appointment they said:

“We’re very excited and looking forward to the opportunity, we’ve been down for a week now and well into the swing of things so are exciting to carry on.

“To come to a Club in such a good place, well established and higher up the leagues with a good chance of getting promoted again, it was an opportunity we couldn’t turn down.”

Having been with the team for a week and managing them to a 5-2 win over Blackpool Ladies, Sam spoke about how impressed he is with the team so far:

“We are really impressed with what we have seen so far, it makes us really excited to see the talent on display so far and what we can achieve this season.

“There’s obviously been a lot of hard work put in before us and it’s up to us now to continue that and build on it.

“Our aim for the season is to get promoted and progress and with this group of players, we believe we can do that.”

Louise Edwards, Head of Women's Football said:

"We are delighted to have appointed Sam and Craig as part of the first team.

"They both bring years of experience in the game with a proven track record of winning and adding to the knowledge that Lynn and Harry already have.

"Sam and Craig are both keen to develop players, not just in the first team but throughout the younger ages groups which fits the ethos of the Club so it's an exciting time and we are looking forward to building on the success of last season."
