TRIC NCS groups raise over £1140 to help transform Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm

Tranmere Rovers in the Community’s NCS group have raised a grand total of £1140.31 in donations towards Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm through various fundraising efforts during their programme, helping potentially transform the farm.

Tam O’Shanter, a popular local urban farm, was at risk of closing down during the pandemic, as they rely entirely on donations and sponsorships and were crucially down on numbers following the restrictions.

As well as giving 110 hours of volunteering time on the farm during their NCS programme, the youngsters returned following the programme’s conclusion last week for Tranmere Rovers’ Carabao Cup Second Round tie at home to Newcastle United, to hold a bucket collection around the Prenton Park concourse before the game.

On the evening of the game, the group raised over £300 in donations to add to the money they had raised the previous week during fundraising efforts such as their walk along the Wirral Way from Seacombe to Leasowe.

This is as well as the donations to Wirral Foodbank, after the NCS groups raised over 149 kilograms of food items for families in need of vital items during the cost of living crisis.

Some of the money the youngsters have raised will go towards the construction of a new Education Centre at the farm, where school groups will visit to learn about the animals at Tam O’Shanter.

Sue, a volunteering co-ordinator at Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm, said: “We are absolutely delighted and overwhelmed. Isn’t it amazing what young people will do for their community!

“We have some specific use for some of the money - as requested by the kids, we are going to finish off our education building which is a new building to help educate people about nature, the farm and climate change. The kids have made finishing that possible with their fundraising.”
