Tranmere Rovers defender Jordan Turnbull says that he is ‘excited’ by the proposition of facing Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Eddie Howe’s side visit Prenton Park under the lights off the back of at 3-3 draw with Premier League Champions Manchester City and will provide Rovers with an inevitably tough test.
“We’re all obviously excited. When you see the draw being made you want a Premier League team and to get a home draw is also fantastic. It’s going to be a brilliant day for the fans too and hopefully we have a packed crowd inside the stadium.
“We have to go out there and put in the performance and have the intentions to get something out of the game."
Having made an impressive home debut at Prenton Park against Gillingham, Jordan believes that the SWA can give the team the extra boost that they will need.
“My first game was only a couple of weeks ago at home in front of the fans so it’s going to be fantastic and hopefully they can give us that extra boost that we’ll need. We have to believe that we can get something out of the game otherwise there’s no point in turning up.
“We had a disappointing result at the weekend but out focus has fully turned to this game now to make sure we prepare right for it and know what we need to do.
“From watching Newcastle lately, you can tell how far they’ve come and they’re getting better and better every week. They’re going to have immense strength in depth as well so regardless of who they put out, we know it’s going to be extremely tough for us but we need to focus on ourselves and do the best that we can.
“Playing against a team of that level, staying in the game is always going to be really important and the crowd will play their part in that especially in the later stages so we’ll go out there and give it our all.
