Cheadle Town 2-1 Tranmere Rovers

5 December 2022

Tranmere Rovers fell to defeat away on Sunday afternoon to the hands of Cheadle Town.

It was Tranmere who dominated the opening stages of the game but despite many chances, they couldn’t seem to open the scoring.

Cheadle took advantage of their first chance on goal when their number 10 found the ball at her feet on the edge of the box and slotted it past Maddock.

Rovers didn’t let the goal get to them as moments later they were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Laura Pennington stepped up to take the kick which saw her score her ninth goal of the season as it looped over the wall and past the keeper into the bottom corner.

The next goal mouth action came when Woolley released Price in the area but unluckily didn’t find the back of the net.

Cheadle came close to regaining the lead but young Rovers player Anya McCready was on the line to clear it away.

Moments later, up the other end of the pitch, Pennington danced past three defenders but her shot was saved by the home keeper.

Despite being on top for the majority of the game, Rovers struggled to get out of their own half in the last 20 minutes.

Cheadle’s domination paid off when their forward slotted the ball past Maddock giving them the lead with just 10 minutes remaining.

Tranmere pushed for a late equaliser through Rachel Unsworth but the Cheadle defenders smothered the midfielder and denied her the chance.

The home side seen the game out and took away all three points.

Next up for Tranmere is a home fixture against West Didsbury and Chorlton at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village, 2pm kick off, Sunday 11th December.
