Rovers fell to defeat in the North East on Saturday afternoon as Grimsby Town take all three points.
The opening stages of the game saw both sides create chances and it didn’t take long for the home side to take advantage as they took the lead after a cross from McAtee finds the head of Kiernan in the seventh minute.
Grimsby carried on piling on the pressure and found the ball in the back of the net again but it was flagged for offside.
Rovers had a great opportunity to equalise as they break through Josh Hawkes with Hemmings alongside him but his pass was under hit causing the home defender to clear it away.
The remainder of the first half was end to end but neither side could convert meaning Tranmere go into the break behind.
Rovers start the second half with Dacres-Cogley making a run down the right towards the byeline but it runs out of play before he could find a cross. Seconds later the home side looked to double their lead as Khan was just millimetres away from turning in a cross at the back post.
Just as Tranmere looked to be getting their way back into the game matters became a whole lot harder for them as The Town were awarded a free kick to the left of the penalty area. Khan’s driven delivery was met by Maher who nodded the ball past Doohan.
Despite being two down Rovers carried on mounting the pressure and were rewarded with a goal as the keeper’s clearance hits Jake Burton and flies in to the back of the net.
It felt like a come back was on the cards as Tranmere had a flurry of chances but were unlucky not to convert any meaning they go back to The Wirral empty handed and looking for three points when Crawley visit Prenton Park next week.
