A young Tranmere side exited the Cheshire Senior Cup in the Quarter Final after defeat to Vauxhall Motors at Prenton Park.
It was the worst possible start for Rovers as Vauxhall took the lead in the opening 30 seconds. Michael Burkey picked the ball up on the left hand side, cut inside and drove the ball past Hewelt in the Tranmere goal.
The visitors nearly doubled their advantage twice in quick succession. Two corners fell on the edge of the box which forced Hewelt in to two identical saves to palm around his post from powerful shots.
On the 20th minute mark there was a golden chance for Burkey to get his second of the game. Garner-Knapper forced Hewelt to parry a cross before Burkey’s close range volley was blocked by Robbie Capps.
Another great opportunity was presented to the Motormen as Cairns latched on to Dwyer’s short back pass. Hewelt spread himself in the Rovers goal to deny him.
Tranmere’s best chance of the half came five minutes before the interval. A free kick was awarded 20 yards out from goal but Ryan Stratulis could only curl his effort a few yards over the bar.
Rovers started the second half the brighter of the two sides. Jamie Timlin tested Dixon from range with a dipping shot which was parried to Max Fisher inside the box but his rebound was sliced wide.
On the 55th minute, the visitors doubled their lead. A goal mouth scramble eventually fell to Haydn Cooper who smashed home from close range into the bottom left corner to give his side a two goal cushion.
Rovers midfielder Blake Bamgbose tried his best to half the deficit shortly after but his left footed curling shot from the edge of the box dropped just over the bar.
Tranmere huffed and puffed in an effort to get back into the game but Vauxhall managed the game well and limited the home side to minimal chances.
