Hemmings: It's all about the team

4 February 2022

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Barrow, Kane Hemmings says he is enjoying being a Tranmere Rovers player.

The 30-year-old arrived at Prenton Park in January from Burton Albion, and has enjoyed a good start to life at Tranmere.

He said: “I’m enjoying it here. Since I’ve come in, we’ve had some good results. Saturday was a blip, but we got back to winning ways on Tuesday night. Hopefully, there’s some more wins to come, but I’ve enjoyed my time so far.

“Saturday was tough for everyone to take, probably the manner of the defeat and the way that it happened. It was difficult, but these things happen. You’ve got to pick yourself up quickly, and not let it fester.

“It was probably perfect for us that we had a game on the Tuesday night, to come in and get a sharp turnaround. I don’t think it was the best performance on Tuesday, but the most important thing was the result and we managed to get that. We’re delighted with that, and we go again on Saturday.

“That was the main thing that I said after the game on Saturday, we’ve been humbled but we go again on Tuesday. We spoke about that immediately after the game. That was probably the best way to approach it.

“As a player, I think I’m quite adaptable. I’m here for the team, first and foremost. I don’t think it’s been a difficult transition for me, I feel like the manager has similar values to what it was at Burton.

“In what he expects from his strikers, and that he wants his side to go after teams and press. That’s something I’m happy to do, so I don’t feel like there’s been a difficult transition.

“As a striker, ultimately you’re always judged on your goals. I think, for me, I want to score the goals. I’m eager for it to come, but as long as I’m putting in good performances and I’m selected, and if I’m doing my bit for the team, I think that’s more important than me thinking that I’ve got to score.

“For me, it’s all about the team. If the goals come, then that’s a reward on top of that.”
