Match Preview: Port Vale

18 February 2022

Tranmere return to home soil this weekend after back to back away games in the past week as Port Vale are the visitors to Prenton Park.

Rovers face a Port Vale side unbeaten in five games under Darrell Clarke with a goalless draw with Northampton Town last time out.

With teams closing the gap on the automatic spots, Rovers will be keen to try and give themselves some breathing space heading into the final few months of the campaign.

Team News:

Jay Spearing and Paul Glatzel are both still out with injuries. Lee O'Connor and Elliott Nevitt both missed Tuesday night's game against Hartlepool and will be assessed ahead of this weekend's game.

One to Watch: Ben Garrity

Born on Merseyside, Garrity rose through the ranks of non-league before joining Blackpool from Warrington Town in 2020.

He was loaned out to Oldham for the 20/21 season and earnt himself a permanent move to Port Vale that summer having not played a game for the seasiders.

This season has been a successful one for the midfielder with seven goals in 26 Sky Bet League Two appearances.

After scoring four goals in three games at the beginning of December, he will be looking to add to his tally further and look for double figures before the season is over.

Manager: Darrell Clarke

Everyone at Tranmere Rovers sends their best wishes and condolences to Darrell and his family following a family bereavement this week.

A relatively young manager, Clarke was born in Mansfield and made over 150 appearances for his hometown club.

His six-year spell at the Stags ended as he joined Hartlepool and spent another six years in the north-east.He finished his career at non-league side Salisbury City where he featured as a player-manager and managed from 2010 up to 2013.

He then took charge at Bristol Rovers for four years before joining Walsall and now most recently being in charge at Port Vale.

With the Valliant’s sitting in ninth in Sky Bet League Tow, Clarke will be hoping they can mount a late play-off push with them sitting four points off the play-off spots.
