Micky: It's about getting the balance right

25 February 2022

Rovers boss Micky Mellon told local media that his side have been putting in the hard work both mentally and physically this week, as they prepare for the weekend's trip to Newport.

Saturday offers Micky and his men a welcome opportunity to return to winning ways, the gaffer started his interview by talking about the work that the group have done in the days following the Port Vale result.

"Mentally and physically, that's really what we aimed to do this week. Get wee bits done. It's only just about making sure we're concentrating on what's put us in the position we're in and just getting good at that, we just keep working away at that.

"The players have been good and we're looking forward to getting down to Newport now."

Micky then talked about the way in which Rovers will approach the game at the weekend, he insisted that the previous results won't affect how they try to break down Newport.

"I think we're always trying to win the next game, I think you've always got to try and win the next game. It wouldn't make any difference to us if we would've won on Saturday, we'd have been trying to win the next game."

The boss also spoke about the importance of striking the right balance between both attacking and defending, he has no doubts in the squad's capability to execute both accordingly.

"I think you always think you can do more, you're always trying to do better. Something that we want to try and do is score more goals, but, we want to get the balance right to keep the clean sheets with that as well, it's about getting the balance right.

"We're certainly working hard in order to try and keep clean sheets and try and create more opportunities to try and score goals. We certainly have the players that are capable of doing that, it's just about encouraging them and waiting for that to happen really."
