Tranmere Rovers Football Club are pleased to announce a new sporting relationship with PROGRESS Wrestling

2 February 2022

Tranmere Rovers Football Club are pleased to announce a new sporting relationship as PROGRESS Wrestling becomes our new social media partner for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

PROGRESS Wrestling are the leading independent professional wrestling promotion in the country and have a reputation stretching beyond the UK with their events being screened on the WWE network, and also on their own DEMAND PROGRESS platform.

In a sense, Tranmere Rovers are following the theme of the much-loved wrestling movie, Fighting with my Family, by ‘keeping it in the family’ as the owners of PROGRESS Wrestling are none other than two of our long-standing Associate Directors, Lee McAteer and Martyn Best.

Lee and Martyn have been supporting the Club across a range of marketing, social media and promotional activities, and so it was really logical that having just acquired PROGRESS Wrestling that they look towards a closer tie-up with the Club.

“I’m really excited to strengthen the links with the Club with Martyn and I being the new owners of PROGRESS Wrestling. I’ve been both a massive Tranmere fan all of my life, and a huge fan of professional wrestling, so it’s brilliant to bring the two together” said Lee.

Many of our fans will also recall Lee as the founder and CEO of Wrestling Travel and we know that a number of our supporters have been to Wrestlemania and other WWE events with Lee.

Martyn will also be remembered as the deputy and then Chairman of the Everton Tigers basketball team who brought much silverware to Merseyside in the last decade was equally enthusiastic, “Lee and I are really pleased with PROGRESS Wrestling being a formal sponsor of the Club, and we can bring our expertise to bear across many of the club’s social media platforms including twitter, Instagram and TikTok.

Mark Palios, our Chairman was delighted with the news, “This is another great example of the ambitions of our football club in being able to attract such an internationally known sporting brand as PROGRESS Wrestling as one of our new sponsors.

“We have many pro-wrestlers amongst our fan base, including the amazing Double J, Jeff Jarrett, a WWE Hall of Famer and it will be interesting to see if we can help PROGRESS Wrestling with some of their north-west shows later in the year.

”I really welcome PROGRESS Wrestling and would like to thank Lee and Martyn for showing their further support and confidence in the club, and it is thrilling partnerships like this which will really add excitement to what will hopefully be a very rewarding season for us.”

Merseyside based promotion, TNT Extreme Wrestling, who are part of the wider PROGRESS Wrestling family, will also benefit from exposure on the Club’s social channels as part of the partnership.
