We’re pleased to announced that Africa Oyé have agreed to become Charlie Jolley’s Business Sponsor!
Africa Oyé, the UK’s largest free celebration of African music and culture, takes place annually in Liverpool. Beginning in 1992 as a series of small gigs in the city centre, the event has gone from strength to strength, moving to its present Sefton Park home in 2002 to cope with demand.
With too many negative representations of Africa entrenched in images of war, disease, poverty and famine, Oyé seeks to redress the balance and highlight the fantastic range of cultures, foods, music and artists that make this great continent one of the most vibrant and inspiring in the world.
Paul Duhaney, Artistic Director, said: “Africa Oyé’s formative years as a festival were in Birkenhead Park and we’ve always had such great support from the Wirral. It’s fantastic seeing the music and events scene starting to thrive in the town with the likes of Future Yard leading the way.
“We have staff who are life-long Tranmere supporters and my son played against Charlie Jolley when he was younger so this partnership was a no-brainer for us, especially in our 30th anniversary year. Hopefully the SWA will be celebrating a promotion this summer at our festival!”
