Micky dedicates Crawley win to Chid

23 January 2022

An emotional Micky Mellon dedicated Rovers triumph away at Crawley to beloved kit man 'Chid', who is currently unwell in hospital, as his side showed immense character to earn a hard-fought victory in West Sussex.

A deflected Jay Spearing free-kick proved to be the match-winner and the boss offered an insight into what has been a tough week and how the team played for their colleague and friend who is recovering in hospital.

"(It was) Unbelievable performance, we want to dedicate it to 'Chid'. It's been a tough week so to put in that type of performance was unbelievable. I'm really proud of the lads.

"We spoke about it before the game, we said if we can fight the way he's fought, we're going to put it in a game of football. An amazing performance, great support and a massive three points."

Mellon praised the group for their resilience after what proved to be a challenging affair on Saturday afternoon.

"Like I said before, we'll find a way. We've got an unbelievable group of footballers here, an unbelievable group of men, they'll find a way.

"So, we're comfortable sitting in there in those types of games and we know that we'll find a bit of quality at some stage because we have that much quality in the group. But, we were made to work very hard for it which we expect because we're there to be shot at because we're at that end of the division.

"We'll just keep going, we'll just keep working hard with the support we've had today. We looked like a really good football club today, but we are a really good football club. It was a really good performance and a massive result for us."
