Sam Taylor signs first professional contract

10 January 2022

Tranmere Rovers are delighted to announce that Sam Taylor has signed his first professional contract with the Club.

The striker has scored 11 times for the U18s this season and has graduated through the club’s Football Education Programme.

Taylor has been studying his BTEC Level Three Extended Diploma in Sport at the club’s college as well as training and playing for the college as part of the education programme.

His performances led to him representing Tranmere Rovers U18s in the EFL Youth Alliance League and FA Youth Cup.

Head of Education, Carl Giles said: “Since joining the college in September, Sam has excelled in both his studies and football.

“It’s fantastic to see that his hard work, application and positive attitude has been rewarded with a professional contract at TRFC.

“This clearly demonstrates that there is a unique and genuine pathway for students to progress from the education programme to the first team. The exciting prospect is who will be next?”

Chairman, Mark Palios added, "Congratulations to Sam. Your first professional contract is always a day you will remember. His signing also represents another step towards creating our own approach to player development as we move away from the EPPP academy system at the end of this season. The intention is to focus on the development of players closer to the first team environment."
