Dacres-Cogley excited ahead of new season

29 July 2022

Ahead of the curtain raiser against Stevenage in League Two on Saturday, Josh Dacres-Cogley spoke to the local media to preview the match and discuss his feelings heading into the new campaign.

“Everyone is excited to get going now. We’ve had a good pre-season and welcomed the new lads with open arms so we just want to get started now. We’ve got a lot of big characters who have helped the new players settle in and we all just want to get to business.

“Everyone last year was disappointed that we didn’t get promoted and achieve what we set out to achieve. This year we want to get automatics, we need to be consistent game by game and keep picking up points. Pre season has been good but it’s been tough and everyone has worked hard so we’re ready to go. “

The defender admits that he is setting his targets high for Rovers next season but also recognises that the team will need to take each game at a time.

“Any footballer will tell you they want to win the first ten games, twenty games but sometimes you need to be realistic and just take it game by game but we are raring to go and will be doing everything we can to win as many games as possible.

“The gaffer has brought in the players to suit the way we want to play and accommodate that. From day one in pre season we’ve adopted a certain shape and a way of playing with freedom which will hopefully be successful and will be enjoyable for the fans too.”

Steve Evans’ men provide the first test of the new season for Rovers and Josh can’t wait to kick off in front of the SWA at Prenton Park.

“It will be good to start the season at home in front of our fans. I don’t think anyone in the league would like to come here for the opening day. We’re all excited and up for the fight.

“The first couple of games is hard to judge what the other teams are going to do but we’ll prepare ourselves to play a certain way and try to get the three points.”
