RIP Alex Russell

Everyone at Tranmere Rovers is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Alex Russell.

Alex was born in 1944 and played for the Club from 1971-1972, making 65 appearances and scoring seven times. His debut came in a 2-1 win against Wrexham on August 14th 1971 and his final match was in a 1-1 draw against Halifax on October 13th 1972.

He also spent time at Southport where he became a club legend as well as playing for Blackburn, Crewe, Formby and Los Angeles Aztecs.

Chairman Mark Palios played with Alex and described him as a 'great guy and a great pro who always helped you when you were coming through'.

The Club would like to send their condolences to Alex’s family and friends at this difficult time. He will be missed.
