St George’s Primary School have today reached the Utilita EFL Kids Cup Final at Wembley where they will play the winners of the Southern regional final, Exeter City.
After beating 31 schools in local competition, St George’s Primary school today represented Tranmere Rovers in the Northern Regional Final for a chance to play at Wembley against other League 2 teams.
The team went unbeaten in the group stages not conceding a goal all tournament before going on to beat Harrogate in the Semi-Final.
Carlisle were the team we faced in the final game that saw St George’s secure Tranmere a place at Wembley in the Utilitia EFL Kids Cup Final after winning 7-6 on penalties.
Mr Thomas and Mrs Gibson spoke on their teams win:
“We are really proud of the children. They have been fantastic ambassadors for our school and for Tranmere Rovers today.
The team went unbeaten throughout the day and didn’t concede a goal, which is a testament to their performance and the standard of their play.
A great semi-final performance was followed by a nervous final, with us winning 7-6 on penalties.
We are really proud of the children and they can’t wait for the final!”
Tranmere Rovers in the Community competition organiser, Shirley Waring said:
“This is a brilliant achievement for the team and they should be really proud of themselves.
They played excellent in the local competition so I’m not surprised they have gone on to win the regional final.
It’s a massive achievement for the school, the Club and of course the boys. To be able to go and play at Wembley is every kid's dream and they get to do it at such a young age, it’s incredible for them.
Well done to the team and we look forward to another trip to Wembley”
Well done St George’s from everyone at Tranmere Rovers and Good Luck in the Final
