Hawkes: I thought we coped with the game well

1 May 2022

Goal scorer Josh Hawkes gave his assessment on Saturday's performance to local media after his impressive performance helped the SWA towards three important points.

The winger's 27th minute strike got the ball rolling for Rovers on an afternoon where victory was a must, he started his interview by reflecting on the game.

"I thought we played well, we had to keep moving the ball they were sat in a bit of a defensive block and we just had to be patient with it, we knew what they were going to do.

"I thought we moved it well and were very patient with it."

Since returning to Prenton Park on a permanent basis at the end of January, Hawkes has chipped in with some important goals for Rovers, this is something he believes he's added more of to his game.

"Since I've came back I think I've scored a lot more than I did when I was here originally, so I think I've added more goals.

"Maybe performance-wise I think I can do a little bit better, but when you judge on only goals and assists since I've came back, I feel like I've added more to my game."

With Oldham's fate already sealed ahead of Saturday's game the visitors were able to play without the pressure that you would normally face at this stage of the season. Josh gave an indication of what it's like to come up against a team in that position.

"You don't know what they're going to do, they can play with that little of freedom and they're unpredictable and it's sometimes tough.

"But, I thought we coped with the game well and we've done well with it."
