There’s a break in Sky Bet League Two action as Rovers look ahead to facing a trip to Carlisle United in F.A. Cup action this weekend.
It’s the second meeting in three games between the two sides after Carlisle won the first encounter last Saturday, running out 0-2 victors at Prenton Park.
But after a goalless draw against Stockport County on Tuesday night, Micky Mellon’s side will be hoping to build positively on the stalemate by progressing into the second round of the F.A. Cup.
As for the home side, Carlisle have been in fine form under Paul Simpson going unbeaten in nine league games but after losing their last three since that unbeaten run before the game at Prenton Park, they’ll be keen to build on the win over Rovers and start building momentum towards their promotion push once more.
Paul Lewis came on as a substitute against Stockport after returning from injury so will be in contention this weekend.
Tom Davies returned to the matchday squad on Tuesday night which is a positive for Rovers.
Charlie Jolley had his first light session back on the grass this week in his long road to recovery from a serious knee injury.
Luke Robinson and Joel Mumbongo remain sidelined.
One to Watch: Kristian Dennis
After being born in Manchester, Dennis came through the ranks at Macclesfield Town where he made four professional appearances before moving around teams within the non-league system.
In 2016, he joined Chesterfield where he had a decent spell in front of goal and then moved for two seasons at Notts County before moving North of the border with St Mirren.
After yet another two-year long spell, 2022 saw the striker join Carlisle United where he has hit the ground running, certainly in this campaign.
So far in 22/23, Dennis has nine goals in 15 appearances so far this season and with his contract up in 2023, he may well be earning himself a new deal with some impressive performances including getting a brace at Prenton Park during his last outing.
Manager: Paul Simpson
After re-joining his hometown club, Paul Simpson has loved being back at Carlisle United and has the Blues in good stead once again after steering them away from relegation last season.
His first spell saw his win back-to-back promotions before experiencing time with Preston, Stockport and England Under 20s where he won the World Cup in 2017.
Now back at Brunton Park, Simpson is hoping Carlisle can build on a positive start and finish in the top part of the table whilst also looking for an exciting cup run starting this weekend.
