TRIC host anti-racism and discrimination workshops ahead of 2022 FIFA World Cup

17 November 2022

Tranmere Rovers in the Community hosted an educational workshop and football event against racism and discrimination this week, in conjunction with the Anthony Walker Foundation and Wirral Deen Centre.

Children from Co-Op Academy Portland, The Priory CE Primary School, and Our Lady & St Edward’s Catholic Primary School came along on Wednesday and took part in an anti-racism workshop with the Anthony Walker Foundation as well as learning about some of the human rights issues around the 2022 FIFA World Cup with our Education Lead, Andy Heywood.

They also took part in a football tournament inside Prenton Park Recreation Centre.

Tranmere Rovers midfielder Josh Hawkes made a surprise visit to the children to give out awards to those who engaged best in the workshops.

All of the children engaged excellently in both workshops, learning about key themes such as the difference between anti-racism and non-racism, and the issues around LGBTQ+ representation ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
