Tranmere Rovers Women suffer their first league defeat of the season as they took on Fleetwood Wrens at Pool Foot Farm.
It was a pretty even affair for the open stages of the game but it was Fleetwood who had the first chance when they got down the right, however, the cross was well collected by Rovers keeper Bolland.
Moments later Rovers had two promising attacks when both Anya McCreedy and Elisha Price were both played through on goal, but neither could trouble the Fleetwood keeper.
Fleetwood took the lead on 17 minutes when their forward got in behind and finished past Bolland.
Rovers reacted well to the setback and Rachel Davison went close from range before Bethan Woolley scored an equaliser for Tranmere five minutes before the break with a dipping right footed shot from distance.
Unfortunately for Rovers they conceded again on the stroke of half time when a shot from the edge of the area looped over Bolland and into the back of the net.
Rovers got the second half underway and immediately went on the attack and a couple of minutes into the second half they got a much needed equaliser. A corner from the far side was headed down by Bethan Woolley into the path of Elisha Price who turned and fired home to draw the sides level.
Tranmere weren’t level for long though as a ball into the box was headed home by a Fleetwood player at the far post and the cod army were in the lead again.
With 70 minutes on the clock Tranmere thought they had equalised again when Elisha Price put the ball in the net, but the Tranmere celebrations were cut short for a dubious offside call and seven minutes later Rover felt aggrieved again when Ellie Doyle was given offside as she converted Liz Robert’s cross at the far post.
Rovers kept on pushing in the final ten minutes and went close when Ellie Doyle clipped the ball past the post inside the area, but it wasn’t to be for Tranmere as they couldn’t find the equaliser and suffered their first league defeat of the season.
Up Next for the women’s team is Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup on the 23rd October, 2pm Kick off, location to be confirmed.
