Match Preview: Harrogate Town

21 October 2022

It’s back to league action for Micky Mellon’s men who enjoyed a 1-0 win in the Papa John's Trophy during the week against Crewe Alexandra. Rovers now travel to Harrogate to play in front of a sold out away end.

It followed from a 3-0 win over Crewe the previous Friday, that time in league action as Rovers made it five consecutive league wins with five clean sheets to add.

With three recent away wins against Salford, Sutton and Walsall respectively, Rovers will be full of confidence heading into the clash in Yorkshire.

As for Harrogate, after a poor run of ten games without a win, they’ve picked up two, 2-1 victories in their previous two outings, finally putting their run of bad from to bed.

Wins against Hartlepool in the league and a midweek win in the Papa John’s Trophy against Morecambe means it’s two teams in decent form clashing at the EnviroVent Stadium.

Team News:

Ethan Bristow has a slight thigh strain and will be assessed ahead of the trip to Yorkshire.

Tom Davies has returned to training and is building up his fitness.

Joel Mumbongo, Charlie Jolley and Luke Robinson are all long term absentees.

One to Watch: Alex Pattison

Born in the North-East, Pattison came through the ranks at Middlesborough where he was loaned multiple times to the likes of York City on two occasions before spending a year on loan at Yeovil Town.

He then left Middlesborough permanently with a move to League One side Wycombe Wanderers where he made 16 league appearances before the season was cut short early due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He featured from the bench in all the play-off games which saw Wycombe remarkably promoted to the second tier which earnt him an extra one-year deal at Adams Park.

Following this, he departed Gareth Ainsworth’s side and joined Harrogate in May 2021. In his first season in the yellow and black, Pattison scored nine goals in league action in what was his best scoring season.

This season, he’s scored four goals and claimed three assist in 11 league games this season, including a goal and an assist in his last outing in a 2-1 win over Hartlepool.

Manager: Simon Weaver

By three years, Simon Weaver leads as the longest serving manager in the EFL after taking over in May 2009. The Doncaster born manager is closing in on 700 games in charge of the League Two side after overseeing their rise into the football league.

He won promotion to the National League in 2018 with a play-off final win over Brackley Town before beating Notts County in the National League play-off final at Wembley in 20220, leading Harrogate to the football League for the first-time in. their history.

After a solid couple of years within the football league, Weaver appears on the verge of turning Harrogate’s challenging run of form around after winning their past two games.
