Over 40 local school teams to compete in EFL Utilita Kids Cup for the chance to represent Tranmere Rovers

7 October 2022

The EFL Utilita Kids Cup is set to kick off next Thursday 13th October, with over 40 local school teams to take part and the winner set to represent Tranmere Rovers in the Regional Final.

Last year’s winners, St George’s Primary School, went on a fantastic journey all the way to Wembley and won 4-0, going on to play on the pitch before the EFL League Two Play-Off Final.

"Every time I go to a football match, I'll remember this," Tobias Nowak-Dodd from St George’s Primary School said after his Tranmere side won at Wembley last year.

This year’s competition, starting next Thursday 13th October, sees four rounds of games with the group winners going through to the finals after October half term.

As well as the football tournament, each school will select a young journalist to write match reports on their school’s fixtures.

This will give the young journalist a chance to go to Wembley if the school progresses to the final, engaging more than just the players, encouraging those outside the team to get involved.

This is the chance of a lifetime for the players and a journalist to make the trip to Wembley, and we would like to wish the best of luck to all children taking part.
