Jordan Turnbull faced questions from the local media this week ahead of Saturday’s challenge of Sutton United at Gander Green Lane.
The defender admits that he is enjoying his football at Rovers and that he can feel momentum growing within the group.
“Ever since I’ve walked through the door, the staff have been excellent. Andy Hodgen and the Gaffer have been brilliant with me to get me up to speed and have allowed me time to get up to pace. I feel great with both my fitness and performance.
“I got drip fed into the team and now I’ve got my fitness up so it’s full steam ahead now. I feel fit and I’m going into games ready and I’m really enjoying it.
“The squad this year is quite young but we’re all really close together with a great team spirit. I think you can see that now on the pitch with recent performances.
“We’re coming off the back of three wins and it took us a while to get points away from home but then we got two in a row and backed it up with a great home win too. The momentum is growing and we want to build on that now.
“The cleans sheets are our bread and butter really, that’s what we go out there to do. Hopefully that lets the lads at the top end of the pitch show their quality to score goals and win us the game. Ultimately, it’s not just the defenders getting the clean sheets, it’s the whole team working well together.
“We’ve got a way of playing that has really suited us and we just need to build on that and keep working on things and hopefully get many more clean sheets.
“The away form was hanging over the team a little bit. Obviously I wasn’t here last season but the club and the fans really wanted us to pick up that away form so we had to start somewhere and we got a great win against Salford. We’ve backed that up since so we’re positive about that.
“From past experience of playing against Sutton it’s going to be a physical game with physical strikers so that’s going to be a challenge for us at the back which we need to stand up to.”
