Merrie looks ahead to Barrow test

30 September 2022

Chris Merrie was in the hot seat on Thursday afternoon to answer questions from the local press ahead of Saturday’s match against Barrow at Prenton Park.

Merrie put in a solid performance in last week’s dramatic win against Walsall, a result which left the squad ‘buzzing’.

“Everyone loves a last minute winner don’t they? The lads were buzzing but to be fair I think we deserved it in the end. It was a great win. Everyone was buzzing in the dressing room but as a player you’ve got to move on to the next one quite quickly so we’re put them behind us now and we’re focusing on Barrow.

“It was great to get another away win, obviously our away form hasn’t been great so we’re trying to turn that around a little bit. It’s a boost of confidence winning those games and hopefully we’re turned a corner now.

“I’m just happy to be playing, I am grateful for the opportunity and I just hope it continues really. It’s great that the fans are behind us and it gives you that extra boost of confidence so we just want to repay them and do well for them.

“No player likes missing out on games. Hopefully I can have a bit of momentum behind me to kick on and stay in the team. We’ve got a strong squad so obviously there is competition for places but hopefully I can get a run in the team.

“I think I can do a bit of everything in the way I play. I try to get the ball down and make the rest of the team tick but out of possession I like to put some tackles in and win the ball back for the team.

“We’ve got a great bunch of younger players, a lot of technically gifted players who are starting to gel really well.

“Barrow are flying at the minute but obviously at home we back ourselves to go and get the win.”
