Micky looking for same again this weekend

23 September 2022

After two positive results in the space of a week, Rovers travel to Walsall in search of building more momentum to climb the League Two table. Manager Micky Mellon says that we need to carry that consistent on into the upcoming fixtures, starting with this weekend.

“It’s always important to get results, we always say that. We need to try and keep the consistency in the way that we’re performing to try and give us the best chance of getting results. We’re still working with a very young squad and we know what they’re capable of because we’ve all seen that now.

“We know what the formula is now and we know that the players are capable of that and we just need to keep executing that in order to keep winning games. I believe, that for this group, is was all about mentality and doing their jobs on the pitch, not losing their focus. We all know that they can play, they wouldn’t be here if they couldn’t play football. They all know what it takes now to get those results."

Despite picking up a vital away win against Salford City last week, the Boss was not getting drawn into making comment about the opposition and insists that Rovers need to concentrate on themselves first and foremost.

“We need to concentrate on ourselves before commenting on anyone else. We’re only thinking about ourselves, we need to get consistent and if we can do that more or most of the time then we’ll be fine and will get results in this league.

“We know it’s going to be tough and that we’re going to have to be at our best again. We’ll go there and remind the lads of how difficult these games can be and get prepared the best that we can."

With Tranmere’s injury list finally beginning to shorten, Micky provided an update on the fitness of some of the returning lads.

“Kyle Jameson is back in training as well as Luke Robinson so they can come back into the group, They got through training alright, they’re not match fit yet but certainly they could play some part if needed at the weekend from the bench.”
