Micky relishing Orient trip

2 September 2022

Micky Mellon sat down with the local media on Thursday afternoon to look ahead to this weekend’s trip to table toppers Leyton Orient.

“Like every game, we know it’s going to be tough and it’s a tough place to go. They’ve got a good home support but it’s not something that daunts, we enjoy going down there and we’ll relish the challenge that will come our way. We’ll be well prepared, no excuses and we’ll attack it head on. They know it will be a tough game too, we’re getting into our stride now so it should be a really good contest.

“We know that they’ve got goal scoring threats but so have we. We can score goals from all areas of the pitch too so it will be a good game. I know Ritchie very well, I’ve played against him so that’s how old we are!"

Rovers opted for a change of formation last weekend, partly due to injuries, and the Gaffer says that the principles don’t charge regardless of the formation.

“We care less about systems and more about principles really. We have a clear way of working when we have the ball so we try to achieve that no matter what system we’re playing. The principles don’t change and that helps the players to make decisions no matter what system they’re in.

“We were able to slide into a back four last week which is definitely useful because there are so many systems that you can play or play against. We’re not seamless yet, we’re still working towards it but winning definitely helps you to be able to build on it."
