St Helens AFC 3-3 Tranmere Rovers Development

3 April 2023

Tranmere Rovers Women’s Development put up a good fight against league leaders St Helens AFC coming away with a point a piece.

Goals from Millie Chesters, Neve and Molly Davin saw Rovers come from 2-0 down to leading 3-2 until an injury time goal from home side meant Tranmere came away with a point.

A strong start to the game for both sides with end to end action but neither side could convert to open the scoring.

Rovers playing some nice team football created a number of chances but they couldn’t manage to find the back on the net.

It was late into the first half when the home side took advantage and managed to break the deadlock and with momentum in their favour went on to score another just before the half time whistle.

Not letting it defeat them, Tranmere came out on top form looking to get something from the game.

Millie Chesters received a blow to the face but the referee waved play on as Millie Almond was one on one with the keeper, she managed to slot the ball round her and into the back of the net.

Molly Davin was on hand to get an equaliser and she poked the ball over the line despite being surrounded by defenders.

On the front foot, Rovers were dominating possession and Neve Foy went and gained Tranmere the lead after picking up the ball in the middle of the park and drove forward skipping past several players and hammering the ball past the keeper.

Despite having the lead and dominating possession, St Helens who are pushing for the league title went and got an equaliser in injury time.

There wasn’t enough time left for either team to grab a winner so they both settled for a point after a great battle for 90 minutes.
