Tranmere Rovers 2-0 Darwen AFC

24 April 2023

Tranmere Rovers Women round off their home league campaign with three points against Darwen AFC.

Goals from Katie Bowers Folan and Elisha Price secure three points for Rovers in their penultimate league game of the 2022/23 season.

Rovers lined up with five players who made the step up from the development team in the squad whom all made an impact in Sunday afternoon’s victory.

Tranmere were on the front foot from the first whistle but their early chances didn’t materialise.

Darwen came close to opening the scoring when they jumped on the back of a mistake from Maddock but Smith was on the line to clear away the danger.

Moments later and Rovers' hard work finally paid off after Jess Durr played the long ball to Bowers Folan who used her pace to fly down the wing and link up with Price and then takes the ball round her man and slots the ball past the keeper to give Tranmere the lead.

Continuing the momentum into the second half the home side continued to create chances but couldn’t find the finishing touch.

Elisha Price doubled the lead after Rovers were awarded a free kick in their own half and Lindsey Smith plays through Price who brings down the ball and loops the ball over the keeper who was off her line.

Tranmere managed the closing stages of the game to maintain their lead and clean sheet to secure all three points.

Tranmere Rovers Women’s next fixture is Sunday 30th April, 2pm kick off at Vauxhall’s Sports Centre in the Cheshire County Cup Final
