Tranmere Rovers host Eid prayers at Prenton Park

21 April 2023

Tranmere Rovers opened its doors at Prenton Park to our local Muslim community to host the Eid al-Fitr prayers this morning.

Working in partnership with Wirral Deen Centre Mosque and Community Centre, Rovers became the second football club in the UK to host the Eid prayers on a football pitch.

Eid al-Fitr follows the completion of the fasting month of Ramadan, were Muslims typically fast by refraining from eating and drinking during daylight hours.

Rovers welcomed hundreds of people onto the Prenton Park pitch to pray in Jama'ah with our local Muslim community.

All who attended were given free Tranmere tickets for the final home match of the season against Northampton Town on Monday 8th May.

Ibrahim Syed, Community Leader at Wirral Deen Centre, said: "Being able to do the Eid prayers at Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park has been an absolute heartfelt delight for the whole community.

"We've had more than 700 people attend prayers today. For myself, it just means so much to the whole community because, being born and brought up here and I'm now nearly forty years old, just to really feel like you're part of the community of Tranmere Rovers, and Tranmere Rovers including the Muslim community just feels absolutely great.

"Special thanks to Tranmere Rovers - it just shows how much of a community club Tranmere Rovers is and that it's a truly inclusive club, and everybody's part of the Super White Army."
