Tranmere Rovers midfielder Chris Merrie said that despite their disappointment at the result, the players were ‘proud of the performance’ after Rovers matched Leicester City in large parts of their Carabao Cup clash.
“Obviously the lads are disappointed but on the whole, I thought it was quite a good performance.
“They’re a top side. Everyone knows that, but I think everyone’s proud of the performance.
“We probably switched off a little bit, but it just shows their quality in the end.
“We had a game plan. They keep possession really well, we set out and I thought we did quite well, especially in the first half when we had the first three shots. I thought we were unlucky in the end."
