Ian Dawes: "The atmosphere will be extra special against Wrexham"

31 August 2023

Ian Dawes is anticipating a "special atmosphere" that awaits his squad this weekend, as newly promoted Wrexham travel to Prenton Park.

The Rovers manager was speaking ahead of Saturday's game against the National League champions, where a large crowd is expected for the first meeting between the two since 2018.

"They're a good team, but there's a few good teams in the league and we are one of them," he said.

"We've got to make sure we manage their threats and expose their weaknesses, and that's what it'll all be about on Saturday. The atmosphere is going to be extra special, it's the right game for us to go into now and the players are looking forward to it."

Speaking on injuries, Dawes provided an update: "Chris Merrie was a little bit behind on fitness because of his injury towards the end of last season, but he's been great.

"Jake Leake pulled his hamstring in training last week so he'll be missing for a couple weeks. Lee O'Connor is still being assessed. For Luke Norris, we'll wait on his scan and results."

With the window closing tomorrow, the boss also discussed transfers: "We want to bring in players that will upgrade us. We're constantly looking, it's been one of the most difficult seasons for bringing in transfers, particularly loans from Premier League and Championship clubs.

"We're still pushing in the next 24 hours to try and get a couple in."
