Ian Dawes: “Salford game is all about our character and mentality”

18 August 2023

Tranmere Rovers manager Ian Dawes says that his side's clash with Salford City at Prenton Park this Saturday (3pm kick-off) is 'all about our character and mentality' following on from a 3-0 victory over Harrogate Town on Tuesday evening.

The manager spoke about how Tuesday’s win over Harrogate Town was anticipated within the squad and how he hopes his side can carry that into Saturday’s game.

“If you look at the performances, the performances have been there. The results in the first two games were disappointing but we were always coming.

“We’d spoken within the changing room all week saying that someone was due to get three or four put past them because you could feel it coming, it was just unfortunate for Harrogate that they were the next ones on the fixture list and they just got it on Tuesday, all the frustrations of the couple of results we’ve had.”

Dawes spoke about the Salford side he anticipates facing this weekend, but said that if his side are on their game then they’ll be tough to stop.

“We always watch the opposition. Salford have made a couple of changes tactically over the three games - they’ve mixed it up with a back four and a back three.

“We’ve got to be aware of what they are and what they’re good at, because we’ve always got to do that, but ultimately if we perform like we did on Tuesday we’ll be too much for them and we’ll have them worried about us rather than us worried about them. It’s all about our character and mentality for the game on Saturday.”
