Rovers ran out 3-0 victors over Harrogate Town on Tuesday evening, a quickfire double from Luke Norris and Sam Taylor as well as a late Kieron Morris strike securing all three points.
Four changes to the side which faced MK Dons on Saturday saw returns to the starting line-up for Lee O’Connor, Kristian Dennis, Connor Jennings and Taylor.
Rovers worked their first chance of the game 3 minutes into the contest when Jake Leake cut inside from the left to square the ball to Regan Hendry, but the effort from the midfielder was over the bar.
Five minutes later, Tom Davies got his body in the way of a shot from the edge of the box by Liam Gibson, as the visitors looked to swing the early momentum their way.
Luke Norris stung the palms of Mark Oxley in the visitors’ goal 20 minutes into the game with a snapshot from just inside the box but the keeper saved well.
Rovers opened the scoring on 24 minutes when Luke Norris headed in off the crossbar.
Just a minute later, Sam Taylor slotted the ball past Oxley to double Rovers’ lead.
Harrogate looked to get back in the game as we approached the half-hour mark, but Sam Folarin’s effort was over Luke McGee’s bar.
On the stroke of half time, Norris hit a shot across goal from a Leake throw-in, but it was wide of the mark and ultimately Rovers took a two-goal lead into the break.
Harrogate came out strongly for the second period and went close through another Gibson effort from 18 yards which drifted wide.
Abraham Odoh forced a save out of McGee five minutes into the half after a mazy run from his own half, but the Rovers stopper was calm in collecting the effort.
Both sets of fans impeccably observed a minute’s applause on the 60th minute to celebrate the life of our friend and Associate Director, Ben Harrison.
Kieron Morris showed some fancy footwork on halfway before driving at the Harrogate back line and eventually unleashing an effort from inside the box, but the shot was wide.
Harrogate had a golden chance on 64 minutes when Matty Foulds squared the ball across goal for Luke Armstrong, but the striker couldn’t quite latch onto it.
Paul Lewis entered the fray in place of Kristian Dennis on 72 minutes, as Rovers looked to see out the victory.
The whites had another on 88 minutes, though, Kieron Morris striding forward after some excellent Norris hold-up play to stroke the ball past Oxley for three.
Ultimately, Rovers gained three points to go with their three goals as Ian Dawes’ side cruised to victory.
