Tranmere Rovers Women wrap up their pre-season preparations with a 3-1 triumph over TNS.
Cloe Robinson, Holly Jones, and Lorna Stratton found the net, making all the difference in today’s victory against TNS, who compete in the Genero Adran Premier league.
The initial stages of the match were somewhat unsettled, with neither team managing to create clear scoring opportunities. Despite holding control of the ball for much of the time, Rovers frequently lost possession in the midfield.
In the 25th minute, Tranmere earned a free kick when Holly Jones was fouled. Doyle delivered the ball into the box, where a defender cleared it, only for Anna Jones to retrieve it at the edge of the area. She then lofted it back to Robinson, who expertly controlled the ball before finding the net.
Rovers came close to securing a second goal. After a pass from Doyle, Shannon found herself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. The keeper managed to block Shannon's shot, and although Arrowsmith was there for the rebound, it deflected off a TNS defender.
Building on their lead, Rovers increased their advantage through Holly Jones. A well-executed corner combination between Doyle and Smith led to the ball landing in the box, where Holly Jones calmly slotted it past the keeper.
During halftime, Katy Maddock and Kiah Sullivan were replaced by Amelia Size and Darcie Aitken.
The second half got off to a rocky start, as miscommunication between Lindsey Smith and Amelia Size resulted in a deflected TNS shot finding the back of the net, halving the deficit for the home team.
Tranmere persisted in applying pressure, but the home team's goalkeeper made several impressive saves to keep TNS in the match.
Lorna Stratton entered the game for Izzy Arrowsmith after picking up a minor injury. She made an immediate impact by noticing the goalkeeper positioned off her line, taking a shot from 20 yards that sailed into the net, giving Rovers a two-goal advantage.
Just before the final whistle, TNS managed to put the ball into the net, but the referee disallowed it due to a handball. With this victory, Tranmere Rovers Women concluded their pre-season campaign.
Next on the agenda for Tranmere Rovers Women is their league opener against Cheadle Town Stingers, scheduled for a 2pm kickoff at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
