The Tranmere Rovers Development team suffered a 0-5 defeat at home to second place MSB Woolton.
The hosts got the game underway, but it wasn’t to be long before Rovers were behind after a defensive error allowed the Woolton forward to nip in behind to give the visitors an early advantage.
Tranmere immediately looked for an equaliser and so nearly got it when striker Phoebe Fogarty was played through on goal, but she was denied one on one by a great stop.
Woolton would double their advantage on 19 minutes with a low drive from the edge of the area which beat Daisy Jones in goal.
Minutes later Rovers came close to pulling one back when Emily Beattie headed over from a Molly Davin corner before Davin was called into action at the other end with a well-timed tackle to deny Woolton on the break.
Woolton would take a three-goal lead into the halftime interval when their number 19 charged forward and fired in a low drive just inside the area.
Seemingly buoyed by the halftime team talk Tranmere started the second half with purpose attacking Woolton from the off with Milly Chesters causing Woolton problems down the right and playing in a succession of crosses toward the far post which just evaded Shaney Bond.
10 minutes into the second half Woolton extended their lead with a lobbed finish over the keeper.
Rovers weren’t going to give in and went close when Millie Chesters beat the Fullback at pace and played another ball to Bond on the left who cut inside but found her shot blocked before Bond would find Fogarty moments later who was also denied.
Woolton would add a fifth with 15 minutes left on the clock with a finish inside the area before completing the scoring minutes from time with a looping header after a corner on the right.
Up next for the Tranmere Rovers Development Team is a return to Cup action away to Ormskirk FC Galaxy Women at JMO Sports Park on 17th December, 3pm Kick Off.
