Tranmere Rovers 5-0 West Didsbury and Chorlton

11 December 2023

A Dominant Rovers performance saw them take all three points in their last home game of 2023.

The visitors got the game underway on a chilly afternoon in Ellesmere Port but it was Rovers who would enjoy a fast start taking the lead inside four minutes when Lorna Stratton fired the ball into the roof of the net.

Tranmere continued to pressure the opposition goal and went close again when Anna Jones pass dropped to the feet of Jess Brady who shot narrowly wide.

Tranmere doubled their lead on 12 minutes when Kiah Sullivan despatched a delightful long ball to Shannon down the left who got in behind and teed up Anya McCready on the edge of the area who found the corner with a crisp finish.

Straight from the restart Rovers capitalised again and made it three when Amy Shannon broke down the left again and crossed for Lorna Stratton who turned the defender and fired low passed the keeper.

The clock ticked to 25 minutes when Amelia Size in the Tranmere goal was forced into a save by a fizzed shot from a West Didsbury forward but 10 minutes later Tranmere had a fourth when Evie Paget and Katie Bowers Folan combined down the right and dropped a ball to the feet of Brady 20 yards from goal who passed it calmly into the corner.

Rovers started the second half with the same intent as the first, attacking from the off and went close to a fifth when Brady’s shot was tipped around the post before Paget went close with an effort of her own inside the area moments later.

Tranmere did get a fifth on the hour mark when Jess Brady played a delightful ball from inside her own half releasing Bowers Folan who raced clear of the defence and finished cooly at the near post.

With 20 minutes remaining West Didsbury & Chorlton launched a counterattack which was denied by a well-timed challenge by Darcie Aitken at the back.

Tranmere continued to push forward for a sixth and went close through efforts from Amy Shannon and substitute Isabella Haileh, before Amelia Size pulled off a magnificent stop low to her left to preserve a well-deserved clean sheet with the last shot of the match.

Up next for Tranmere Rovers Women is a trip to the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School to face Blackburn Community on 17th December in the League.
