Match Preview: Crawley Town

28 February 2023

Tranmere Rovers look to make it back-to-back wins on Tuesday evening as Crawley Town visit the Wirral.

A Josh Hawkes penalty was the difference between Rovers and hosts, Stevenage, on Saturday, as a strong Tranmere side managed to return home from the Lamex Stadium with all three points.

Micky Mellon’s side could progress to five points from the play-off places with a win, however, a struggling Town side must turn up, with fears of relegation to the Vanarama National League looming over the visitors.

Crawley are without a win in over a month, with their last three points coming at home to Salford City at the end of January. Since then, they have shifted 11 goals in 5 games.

Their last outing was a 5-2 loss at home to Carlisle on Saturday afternoon, with initially Carlisle going 4-0 up before a 5-1 lead, and the home side getting a consolation goal late on in the fixture.

Tranmere have yet to play Town this season, however, since their first meeting in 2012, Rovers have won 6 games and drawn 1 out of a possible 11, with the last 3 matches going the whites’ way.

One To Watch: Ashley Nadesan

Ashley Nadesan is a 28-year-old forward who is one of the most in-form players in the Crawley Town team so far this season.

The striker started off his youth career at Horley Town, members of the Combined Counties League Premier Division, in 2012 – signing his first contract with them in 2013.

He signed his first EFL contract in 2016 for Fleetwood Town, where he stayed for three years, making just 21 appearances and scoring 1 goal.

He went on two loans during this time, both at Carlisle, where he scored 12 goas in 40 matches.

He signed for current club, Crawley Town, in 2019, and has played 129 games for them, scoring 25 – 6 of those coming this campaign, as well as 5 assists.

The Manager: Scott Lindsey

Scott Lindsey is a former professional footballer who played for a total of 18 clubs across his 22 year playing career!

He started his career at Goole Town before progressing to play in the football league for Burton Albion and Gillingham, as well as playing for multiple other teams.

He took his first management role in 2010 as caretaker manager of Lincoln City. He then managed Chatham Town before making that step to the EFL in 2019, managing Swindon Town. He started managing Crawley Town in 2023.

He has managed just 36 professional games in his career, winning 11 and drawing 9 – leaving him with a 30% win percentage.
