Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon believed his side fully deserved their 1-0 victory over Sky Bet League Two leaders Leyton Orient at Prenton Park.
Rovers earned the three points after Omar Beckles turned Josh Dacres-Cogley’s cross into his own net on 82 minutes.
And Micky shared his delight at the result and performance in his post-match press conference with the local media.
Mellon said: “I thought that the players were excellent. We tried to do a few different things, it came off for us and we kept going, but I thought we were full value for the victory and we worked really hard.
“It was a really big effort from everybody involved and I’m really pleased with the performance. I look at my squad of players and I look at what we can achieve by controlling possession, scoring goals, and keeping clean sheets, and I believe that this group can push us on more, and we did that really well.
“It was a really good performance and a good time to win a big game.
“You can see the qualities and the reasons why we wanted to bring Harvey in, and we can certainly defend from the front with him as his pace is electrifying, he will get better with games and training and I’m sure that you’ll see the qualities and why we wanted to bring him to the club.
“And then young Jake comes on, he’s jumped that gap from being a development player to being a first-team squad player, I had a chat with him the other day about that, and that’s why I put a show of trust in him by putting him on with 20 minutes to go, and I believe Logan (Chalmers) and Brad (Walker) can also make an impact after they came on, but on the whole as a group, we felt that we knew we needed a big performance.
“We were fantastic, we have good quality in good areas and we are building something, the group has the potential to keep on moving the team up the league by getting that consistency and results.
“We can be pleased with the group and how they are progressing, but it will be back to work again next week ahead of a brilliant following we’ll have at Stockport.
“The culture of this football club is work hard, run hard and fight for the jersey, and we have a group who can do that, and we are developing and we want to go out and perform, we are growing and getting better.”
Mellon also praised the support of the SWA who backed the lads all through the game.
He added: “We got that result for the supporters and everyone at the football club, I think we’re renowned for that atmosphere and we work together to give them something to cheer for.
“We got a real backing from the supporters and they are really important to us, because when the game is coming to the latter stages we know how powerful the Tranmere crowd can be, we call them the 12th man, and many times they have helped us create that late goal.
“I understand as an ex-player and now a manager, what the players will require from the fans at any time. I asked for it and they gave it to us, so it was a good connection, and it was a good result against a team who are top of the league, so we’re looking forward to a brilliant atmosphere again.”
