Tranmere Rovers Women fell to defeat at home to the hands of Salford Lionesses on Sunday afternoon.
Keris McRoberts pegged back a goal for Tranmere but it wasn’t enough as Salford took home all three points.
The home side dominated the open stages of the game but couldn’t take advantage and find the opener.
Rovers were forced into an early substitution when Amy Shannon fell unwell and was replaced by Anna Jones.
Salford were awarded a penalty on the 20th minute when centre half Foster stepped up to slot it straight past Maddock to give the away side the lead.
Taking advantage of their lead, the visitors were on the front foot and doubled their lead from a corner.
Abdullahi nearly got a third for the Lionesses on three occasions but Katy Maddock denied her tipping the ball over the bar.
It didn’t take long before Salford did convert their third through Cartlidge as the ball landed at her feet in the box and she smashed it into the back of the net.
Three half time substitutes for the home side as Jade Collins, Nat Kerrigan and Izzie Arrowsmith replaced Ellie Doyle, Liz Roberts and Anya McCready.
Despite being three goals down, Rovers started off the second half on the front foot creating several chances but much like the first half couldn’t find the back of the net.
The hard work paid off in the end as McRoberts clawed a goal back for the home side.
It wasn’t enough as Salford went on to get a fourth after being awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, it took a deflection on the way in to deceive the keeper.
A strong second half but it wasn’t to be Rovers as they suffered their second defeat of 2023.
Up next, Tranmere Rovers Women welcome Fleetwood Town Wrens to the Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Sunday 29th January, 2pm.
