Tranmere Rovers’ EFL Week of Action Roundup

20 January 2023

This week for EFL Week of Action, Tranmere Rovers in the Community have been demonstrating some of the sessions we deliver which make a difference in our community.

On Monday, we showcased our Turn Up & Play Football session at Guinea Gap Leisure Centre, with Project Manager Tom giving an overview of the session with the backdrop of the River Mersey, and Ashleigh who has been coming along since the beginning of the sessions talking about why she enjoys coming along.

For Tuesday, we highlighted our wellbeing session with Wirral Ways, supporting those recovering from mental health problems and addiction. They took on the crossbar challenge, introducing themselves to the camera before having a go.

On Wednesday, the spotlight was on our Youth Zone at Beechwood Recreation Centre. We provide three hours of diversionary activities on this day every week for children ranging from 8-16 including a basketball session, a football session, and activities in the Youth Zone such as pool, table tennis, Xbox and Playstation games.

For this video, we replicated Saturday’s fixture between Tranmere Rovers and Doncaster Rovers on Fifa 23 and showed some of the youngsters playing the game.

On Thursday, we displayed our dementia-friendly afternoon, when Tranmere Rovers players Jake Burton, Mateusz Hewelt, Max Fisher and Jon Nolan came to visit, joining in some games with our guests and having a chat with them.

The dementia-friendly afternoon takes place every Thursday, when we hold weekly dementia support sessions for anyone who suffers from dementia, their carers and anyone who has been affected by dementia or Alzheimer’s.

For the final day of our Week of Action on Friday, we spoke to Dave Philpotts, who played over 200 games for Tranmere and now comes along to our over-65s Walking Football sessions every Friday.

These are just some of the sessions we deliver every week which make an impact on the local society. If you would like to find out about any of the sessions mentioned above or find out about any other sessions, give us a call on 0151 608 2354.
