Rhyl Ladies FC 0 - 4 Tranmere Rovers

9 July 2023

Tranmere Rovers Women kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 victory away to Rhyl Ladies FC.

Rovers started on the front foot, creating many chances and displaying some outstanding football but couldn’t quite convert their chances.

The home side’s first chance came twenty minutes into the game but Captain Lindsey Smith commended her backline and calmly distinguished any problems.

Just short of half time, Amy Shannon put Rovers ahead after cutting inside and driving a low-fired shot into the back of the net. A deserved lead after a hard-thought first half.

Much like the first half, Rovers started on the front, but this time it took just 10 minutes for Shannon to double the lead after losing her man and cutting inside to slot past the keeper from a very tight angle.

Continuing to press Tranmere’s hard work paid off again when Izzie Heilah found herself with space in the box and from 18 yards hammers the ball home.

Despite being three goals ahead the girls didn’t take their foot off the gas and they continued to keep play in the opponent’s half and creating several chances. No signs of pre-season tire showing.

On the stroke of full time, Katie Bowers Folan secured the win by getting the fourth of the match after she turned her man in the box and slotted the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner.

The Full time whistle blew and it was a good run 90 minutes for the girls to kick start their 2023/24 campaign. A lot of promising talent on show.

Don’t forget you can come and meet the Tranmere Rovers Women First Team and the Clubs open day on Sunday 16th July. Full details of which can be found here.
