Tranmere Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of Mikey Davies on his first professional contract.
The 18-year-old left back has spent the last two seasons in the Club’s Education Hub, studying for his BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development while also having daily coaching sessions with Club staff.
Mikey, from Rock Ferry, is the second player from the Club’s Education Hub to sign a professional contract following Sam Taylor who made his first team debut last season and scored his first professional goal at AFC Wimbledon in April.
Head of Coach & Player Development Dan O’Donnell said: “Mikey has done really well to be offered this contract.
“The Club’s Education Hub is focussed first and foremost on providing a quality learning experience for all students and ensuring they finish their studies better equipped to go into employment or further education. But those studying sport related courses are based at The Campus for their lessons and coaching and as such have access to the same facilities as the first team which is something other similar provisions can’t offer.
“Those who excel can have the opportunity to train with the first team squad, which Mikey did regularly last season. He also competed for the Club in the FA Youth Cup, Cheshire Senior Cup and Liverpool Senior Cup.
“His attitude to his education and his football has been excellent and he’s impressed when given the opportunity. He now needs to make the step up to the first team environment on a daily basis which won’t be easy but I’m sure he’ll give it everything he has.”
Manager Ian Dawes added: “I’ve watched Mikey a lot in training last season and he’s a bright young player who we believe we can develop.
“It’s a testament to excellent work of the coaching staff in the Club’s Education Hub that Mikey has signed professionally.”
