Striker Luke Norris signs for Rovers on one-year contract

20 June 2023

Tranmere Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of striker Luke Norris on a one-year contract.

Norris is an experienced frontman whose League Two goal return has reached double figures in each of the last two seasons with Stevenage.

The forward’s arrival adds fire-power up front to Ian Dawes’ side, as well as experience of winning promotion from League Two.

First Team Manager Ian Dawes said: “It’s such an important signing for us. He’s a player we’ve come across over the last three or four years, and he’s always been a striker I’ve admired, particularly when playing against us. He’s an all-round striker - he can hold the ball up, he competes well, works hard, scores a variety of goals and I think he’ll be an important signing for us and a focal point up front.”

Technical Director Nigel Adkins said: “We have a thorough recruitment process at Tranmere Rovers, and this important signing is a culmination of a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes by the dedicated staff.

Having some experienced strikers up front will be helpful for the development of Harvey Saunders, Charlie Jolley and Sam Taylor - getting that balance right between youth and experience is critical to what we are trying to build.”

The 30-year-old won Stevenage’s Player of the Year award in 2021/22 after scoring 15 goals in all competitions, and followed that up with 14 goals in the 2022/23 season, helping Stevenage gain automatic promotion along the way.

After graduating from Brentford’s youth academy, Norris made his debut for the Bees’ senior side in 2011 and made five appearances for the first team. Since 2014 he has played for  Gillingham, Swindon Town and Colchester United prior to joining Stevenage in January 2021.

Norris’ goals helped Stevenage to a second placed finish last season, with the striker a regular in the starting line-up throughout the campaign.

On joining Rovers, Norris commented: “It feels really good. I’m really excited to get going. I had a few conversations with the staff around the Club's plans, and having been part of a promotion-chasing side last year, it certainly has a similar feel.

Speaking to the gaffer and the team here about what I can do, and seeing the fantastic facilities and the support the Club gets, I thought, ‘I definitely want to be a part of that'. The new adventure has really excited me."

A full interview with Luke Norris will be available on our YouTube channel soon.
