Davies: We need to respond in the right manner

24 March 2023

Tranmere Rovers centre-back Tom Davies says he and his team-mates must respond in the right manner away at Colchester United on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers will be under the caretaker management of Ian Dawes and Andy Parkinson for the Sky Bet League Two fixture, with stand-in captain Davies offering his thoughts to the local media.

Davies said: “It was a tough place to be initially. No-one likes it when something like that happens, it was a dour time for everyone and the boys took it pretty hard, but then quickly you’ve got to shift your focus, get back on track and think about what’s to come and what can still be achieved.

“It’s a case of getting back on the training pitch, moving forward and trying to do the best for the Club.

“We take responsibility as a group as we are the ones directly on the pitch, so we have to use the feeling to fire us going forward and put all of this behind us and move forward.

“The senior lads in the changing room, we’ve had the responsibility all season, it’s part and parcel of who you are as a person and we have to improve our standards, so myself and the other senior players will keep that going.

“We’ve got a lot of quality in the squad but the table doesn’t lie, but there’s good players in that changing room so if everything is done right and properly, we can be challenging higher up the league, but it’s a case of doing things right and working every day, then we’ll see the fruits of our labour.

“We’re all right behind Dawesy and Parky. There’s a mentality in the changing room that we can achieve something, whether that be get as many wins as we can, and we’ll be doing our absolute best for them.

“We’ve got a long trip to Colchester but it will be worth it if we can come back with the three points.

“Hopefully there’s an up-turn in form and performance, and we’ll have to start that on Saturday.

“They’ve had a few changes, with new signings and a new manager coming in, so they’ll be up for it, so it should be a good test for us.”
