Tranmere Rovers 3-2 Crewe Alexandra

5 March 2023

Tranmere Rovers Women kick off March with a victory after defeating Crewe Alexandra 3-2.

Goals from Ellie Doyle and two from Amy Shannon were the difference in securing all three points this afternoon.a

The game got off to a slow start with the visitors creating a number of chances to take the lead but saves from Maddock denied them the opportunity.

Tranmere were awarded a penalty after the ball was handled in the box. Ellie Doyle fails to convert as Holloway produced a save but after coming off her line the penalty was to be taken again, this time Doyle doesn’t disappoint and converted to give Rovers the lead.

Carrying the momentum forward Shannon doubled the lead after calmly taking the ball down and hammering the ball past Holloway.

Just before the half time whistle, Crewe got one back, despite shouts for a foul on McRoberts the ref played on and Stafford slotted past Maddock.

Rovers started the second half strong with Shannon looking to get her second of the game but Holloway palmed away denying her the opportunity. Her efforts were finally rewarded after McCready won the ball back in the middle of the park, drives forward and plays through Shannon who curled the ball past the keeper.

Both teams created several chances towards the game’s later end but neither could make a difference.

Much like the first half Crewe managed to get a goal back through Edwards at the end of the game but it wasn’t enough and Rovers secured their first league victory of the year.

Next up for Tranmere Rovers Women is the Semi-Final of the Cheshire Senior Cup against Macclesfield Town, 2pm kick off, Ellesmere Port Sports Village
