Jordan Turnbull was delighted to be Tranmere Rovers’ match-winner as his goal earned Micky Mellon’s men a 1-0 victory against Crawley Town at Prenton Park on Tuesday night.
Turnbull’s composed finish across goal and into the bottom corner from Josh Hawkes’ assist in the 68th minute secured a second straight win for Rovers.
And the centre back shared his delight with the local press following on from full-time.
Turnbull said: “I knew I was offside for the first one, so I was disappointed with that, but I was buzzing to get my second one, it was my first goal at home, so to get the three points makes me really happy.
“I remember Josh passing it to me, I set him up a few weeks ago so he repaid the favour. We know that we haven’t scored as many goals as we’d have liked but as a team we’ve been pretty solid at the back, keeping clean sheets, so there’s games like this where it’s been 1-0 like Saturday, and it’s a great time for us to come into some goals during the back end of the season.
“I’m just looking to help the team, everyone has got to chip in with goals at times whether it’s me or other defenders and goals from all round the team, so I’m happy to contribute.
“If there’s any time to go on a winning run it’s now. We knew this was a big week coming up especially after going there and beating a really strong Stevenage side. We had two home games, so we’ve ticked one off with a win, so we’re looking forward to Saturday.
“We have shown that we can beat the top teams in this division, sometimes comfortably as well, so it’s been really frustrating, we want to go and play like that every week and we’ll keep trying to do that.
“Saturday is another opportunity to pick up three points and close that gap towards the top end of the table.
“It wasn’t our best performance but we went out and won the game, we’re happy we came out with the three points, it’s the business end of the season and we need to be winning games if we want to achieve anything.
“We’ve got another home game coming up on Saturday so it’s really important that we recover, and give it everything again.
“It was a good battle. They came here and tried to play football, it was a good game and we gave it our all so we’re delighted I managed to score to get the three points and contribute, it was an eventful game for me.
“In recent weeks the squad has been tested and rotated, I myself missed two games, it wasn’t too serious, but players are coming back now with a big home game coming up and it gives the manager a good problem to go out there and pick the team to win the game, and we’ve got great team spirit, so everyone is in it together.”
