Davies: It was an easy decision for me

5 May 2023

Tranmere Rovers centre-back Tom Davies is pleased to extend his stay at Prenton Park after signing a new two-year deal with the Club, and he is excited for the future under the management of Ian Dawes.

Davies has been an important member of the Rovers defence for the last two seasons, becoming a fan favourite.

And having committed his future to Tranmere by penning a deal until 2025, 31-year-old Davies is looking forward to working with Dawes, who was appointed as manager on Thursday.

Davies said: “I’m really pleased and it’s been in the works for a while.

“It’s been a quick process, we both wanted to get it done, so I’m happy to be secure for the next couple of years.

“The ambition of the Club, and the direction they want to go in. It’s been a tough season but we’ve come together as a collective and realised where we want to be and how we want to get there, so we’re pulling in the same direction and I’m looking forward to next season.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here, I know that we’ve got a good core group in the changing room and we are not far away from achieving something good for this Club.

“There has been a bit of a period where we were waiting to hear about the manager but now that’s been sorted, I’m happy to be here for another two years and hopefully get this Club competing for promotion.

“Since Dawesy has taken the reins, he’s had a positive effect on myself and the group.  Tranmere is somewhere I am enjoying playing my football and I’ve got a good relationship with the manager, so it became an easy decision for me.

“We all know that Dawesy will be the new manager, and we know what he wants to do and that can only benefit us in the changing room, and we know that we can win games and have a good season next year.

“We’ve started to see the steps of what they want to implement, so hopefully next season we can carry that on.

“Now it’s about building on what we’ve got, having a good summer preparation, and building a squad which will compete next year.

“There’s no reason why we can’t have a really positive season, and with the manager in and his way of playing, we want to be there or thereabouts and that’s the main aim of everyone here.”

Davies also praised the SWA for their support throughout his time at the Club since arriving in the summer of 2021.

He added: “I can’t tell the fans enough how much I enjoy playing for them, their support home and away is really good and I’m looking forward to the next two years with them behind us.”
