Tranmere Rovers Women retain the Cheshire County Cup after beating Stockport County on Sunday afternoon.

In what was a rematch of the 2022 cup final, Tranmere Rovers of the 5th tier took on 4th tier Stockport County in a bid to retain their title.

It didn’t get off to the start Rovers would have hoped for when just three minutes in County were awarded a penalty after an arguable handball.

Up stepped Figueiredo who hammered it home from the spot to give Stockport an early lead.

On the front foot, Stockport had a flurry of chances but Rovers defended well to keep the score line down and giving them every chance to get back in the game.

Tranmere had a couple of chances but a strong County defence denied an equaliser.

Rovers came out in the second half strong and used their pace to create opportunities.

Up the other end of the pitch and the defenders were working hard to keep Rovers in the game but a slip up in the closing stages saw Figueiredo with an open goal but Maddock gets her hand to it and tips it onto the post.

The clock was ticking and it didn’t look like it was meant to be for Tranmere.

With just minutes left of extra time Rovers won a corner. Doyle whipped in a beautiful ball that Arrowsmith nodded home and Tranmere were level.

Moments later the final whistle blew and it was straight to penalties.

It was four a piece after the first five penalties so it went to sudden death with Izzie Haileh scoring for Tranmere the pressure was on Stockport to convert but their efforts went wide and Rovers were crowned Cheshire County Cup Champions for two years on the run.
