Tranmere Rovers Manager Nigel Adkins said he expected a tough game at Sutton United on Saturday afternoon after his side came away with a point.
“It’s exactly how we thought the game would be. We wanted to be hard to beat. You see the direct nature of the opposition - give them credit because that’s what they do.
“They’re top of the league for most direct balls in so we knew we had to go and deal with their full momentum from the long throws, the free-kicks, the corners.
“Ultimately we got done in the last minute for a scrappy little knockdown between people’s feet as well, but from my point of view I’ve seen a committed performance, resilient.
“It was going to be a horrible game, we knew that. I thought at times in the first half we did alright, we knew we could give them problems on the counter attack which we’ve gone and done, put ourselves in front.
”We’ve talked about being hard to beat and we were hard to beat because we drew the game, we didn’t lose. We must remember that. It feels like a defeat but we didn’t lose the game and it’s a very invaluable point on the road.”
